Differences Between Select and Rec:
-both practice 2 days per week.
-select coaches may occasionally hold extra practices.
-select games are Saturday and/or Sunday.
-rec games for boys are Saturdays; girls are Sunday.
-most select teams enter at least 1-2 tournaments per season.
-select teams have play-offs in the fall.
-select: U9-U12 $80 plus $68 for uniform; U13-U19 $90 plus $68 for uniform
-rec: U10-U12 $60 plus $29 for uniform; U15-U19 $65 plus $29 for uniform
-select team registration costs more because of league dues and tournament fees.
-additional expenses may include: extra tournaments, indoor training and/or league play, apparel (warm-ups, etc.).
-select players must be selected (tryouts).
-select players will play with and against player of a similar skill level.
-rec players are guaranteed 50% playing time (unless behavioral or ongoing attendance issues are a problem).
-playing time at the select level is at the discretion of the coach.
-players will be grouped by age and gender.
-players will be evaluated by several different coaches on a variety of skills, tactics, athleticism and attitude.
-players will be expected to attend both nights.
-day 1 is skill based; day 2 is game situations.
-why 2 nights? We want to give your child the opportunity to showcase his or her strong points, whatever they may be, and to allow them enough time to feel comfortable and confident enough to show their true potential.
-selection will be made jointly by the evaluators and coach and will be based on the criteria mentioned above.
-it is our hope to offer as many children as possible the opportunity to play on a select team. However, we also need to ensure they are playing at the appropriate level (size, skill, maturity) and that the team will not face division season after season because of varying ages.
-it is our long term goal to field all ‘of age’ select teams. Being a smaller club makes this difficult, especially with 2 large premier clubs in our area. Our solution is to make every effort to form a U9 boys and U9 girls team every year. The idea being they will move up together year after year. This can only happen if the kids attend the tryouts. If 12 U9 girls (or boys) tryout, are willing to make the commitment, and we have a coach, we will form a team.
-for now, we will need to have some flexibility with the older and already existing teams to ensure some continuity and the ability to continue to play at the most appropriate level. However, decisions will be made to benefit the majority.
Why only U9-U12 tryouts?
-from now on, tryouts for U13 thru U19 boys and girls will be held in the fall (late Oct, early Nov).
-numbers have always been low at tryouts in these age groups because most of the kids plan to play for the school team in the fall and are therefore not thinking about club teams.
-our hope is to get the players at the tail end of their school soccer season. The tryout in the fall will be for the following spring and fall seasons (assuming the team plays club ball in the fall)
-as this is a transition year, we will be allowing coaches of current U12+ select teams to carry over into the fall 2013 season without an official DYS tryout.
-while walk-ups will be accepted, pre-registration is strongly encouraged and will aid in the overall organization of the tryout.
-online registration will be open March 2nd thru April 5th and we encourage you register a.s.a.p. It is quick, simple and there is no charge to tryout. We’re even giving away free water bottles to all pre-registrants.
-coaches will be required to contact all players no later than 2 days after the last tryout. If you do not receive a call or email by the 3rd day, contact our director of coaching.
